Back on the road, we were able to take advantage of the newly completed Ruta del Sol on the way to Bogota. It was nice to able to actually ride at highway speeds for much of the time again, something we haven’t been able to do much of since arriving in Colombia due to heavy traffic.
We thought we had missed the rainy season in Central America, but we were wrong.
We bid farewell to Alfonso and Maria, then set off for the long haul to Mazatlán, Sinaloa. We were warned that the ride would be straight and boring with lots of tolls. Boy, were there tolls!

A few years ago, some things happened that changed my life forever: I fell in love and married a girl who rode motorcycles, I left my career in aerospace and I got a job in the motorcycle industry. I've never been happier! I ride a 2006 BMW R1200GS and Brayde rides a 2007 BMW F650GS. They're perfectly matched bikes for traveling together and this fall we’re going to finally take one of our dream rides: Seattle to Tierra del Fuego.
Curious what a fully outfitted adventure motorcycle weighs? We wondered the same thing and have since strapped a variety of ADV motorcycles to the digital scale here at our shop in Seattle.
