Route Descriptions (print this and carry it for reference on the ride): 1START-Nach: This year's ride starts in Enumclaw. If the coffee hasn't yet kicked in, and you have an auto-routing GPS, you can have it navigate to the waypoint "Start". Activate this first route here. It follows Hwy 410 out past Greenwater, and then up FR 70. The route goes near the Naches Wagon trail, and then over Green Pass, finally dropping into the Nachess ORV area and back to 410. Be sure to fuel up at one of the little stores along the highway. 2Nach-Camp: This route leaves 410 just before the town of Naches, and winds it's way up through farm lands, eventually taking the Old Durr Rd. over Umptanum ridge. This climb up over the ridge is the most difficult part of the ride. If you have little or no off-road experience, the rest of the ride is do-able, but this section is not recommended for those who have never taken their bikes off-road (we have an excellent alternate paved route to bypass this section - see "Paved ALT" below). The Old Durr road is not graded, and has loose rock on a moderate slope. It's not death-defying, but you need to pay attention and pick good lines. It's suitable for GS boxers, even without knobs. Coming down the other side has more of the same, along with a few shallow rain ruts. After the descent, there's a short, shallow creek crossing (12-18") with a rocky bottom, and then another climb out of the canyon with more loose rock. On the way to camp the route takes us almost into Ellensburg, so if you've got a few hours before dark, you can go grab a cold one and reward yourself for making it over Umptanum. The rest of the ride to camp (Rider's Camp - yeah, that's really what it's called!) is well-graded gravel or dirt road. 3CAMP-CleElum: Well graded gravel and dirt roads, albeit with a bit of washboard. There are a few turns here that can be missed if not following the GPS. Next thing you know, you're in downtown Cle Elum. 4Cle-Prest: This section follows I-90 back towards Seattle, while taking in the obligatory Denny Creek twisties followed by Tinkham Rd. If you haven't done this before, it's an excellent detour off of 90. Be sure to exit off the highway to The Summit ski area, and head over to Alpental. Continue past the Alpental entrance and get yourself in super-moto mode. After you've scraped the dirt off the edges of your tires, cross over the freeway and re-apply the dirt on the Tinkham Rd., eventually popping back out on I-90. Lil' bike ALT - for those on DRZs, or those seeking thrills, this ALTERNATE route follows the historic Naches Wagon Trail, now an ORV trail. This route is an alternative to "START-Nach". It is steep and loose in sections, with root ledges and other technical goodies. Just like the name says: not recommended for multi-cylinder bikes, or even large single-cylinder bikes. Think "street-legal dirt bike". This route has not been ridden this year. Ride at your own risk. Paved ALT - This route provides a paved alternative to the Old Durr Road route over Umptanum Ridge ("Nach-CAMP"). It's an excellent motorcycle road with great corners, following the Yakima river. You'll pass through the outskirts of Ellensburg, so if you're running early, you'll have time to run into town. Once you come to the end of the route, activate the route "Nach-CAMP" (you'll be jumping in mid-way), and follow it to camp.
