For those who want to tour with the Xchallenge and luggage, we have designed this large luggage rack. Steel tube structure distributes heavier loads better onto the Aluminum X-Challenge subframe. See the KitPhoto for a better view of this steel structure. The luggage support plate has many tiedown slots to positively secure your load.
Black powder coated steel tube structure
Rack is 11" wide at front; tapers to 8" at rear, and is 9" long
This rack fits up well to the odd shape of the rear end of the XChallenge. Having rear points to secure a small gear bag or some gas is great.
It does have a few short comings:
The slots need to be wider to accommodate the use of cam lock tie down straps.
The taper of the plate to the rear of the bike isn't a great shape to secure a bag or keep it off the exhaust pipe.
The 6mm bolts shear off and the spacers stay on the trail. I know that they are accommodating BMW's poor design, but to simply drill & tap the subframe to take 8mm or 10mm bolts would work a lot better.
