Questions about this product?
4.2 gallon (16L) add-on tank increases fuel capacity from 2.4 gallons to 6.6 gallons. This tank drapes over the motorcycle in the location of a normal fuel tank ahead of the seat. It drains by gravity into the original underseat tank. Installation involves attaching special fuel fittings thus drilling holes into the bottom of the BMW underseat tank.
With the excellent fuel mileage of the G650X (60+mpg!) it becomes a capable long-distance traveler.
USA D.O.T. certification is not available for this tank and thus we consider it for "off-road use only".
These tanks may be on backorder, the best way to get one is to confirm a backorder, they are flowing thru but the best way to get one is to get your name on the list.
  • 4.2 gal / 16 liters extra fuel!

A good investment to making the XChallenge a long distance capable bike. Not worrying about running out of gas in Baja is a great relief. Fit, finish, and installation are very good. 2 things keep this from being a 5 star rating. The first is that TT should supply better fuel line, or actual fuel injection line. The second is that the TT instruction to drill holes in the main tank. It really should just siphon into the main tank via the main tank vent. I installed it with using a siphon into the main tank through the main tank vent and have had no issues with it. Yes, it is normal for the included petcocks to leak a little bit near the petcock handles.

This beats having to carry extra gas. I installed the tank two years ago in 2010 and it has lasted well. It survived a nasty slide down a boulder strewn slope. It's relatively easy to install w some know-how. On the down-side, the included fuel lines are low quality, and the petcocks started to leak some after about 2 years. But overall, I would recommend this.
