Upgrading to Ohlins suspension is the single greatest chassis improvement you can make to your motorcycle. You will immediately notice an improvement in ride quality, comfort and chassis feedback both on-road and off.
A major difference that you will notice on the G650X is that you lose the air adjustability. What you gain, is better handling off-road. One complaint that we hear often about the OEM air shock, is that if you start to lean over (while stopped, perhaps straining to keep this tall bike upright), the airshock extends further. In other words, "the bike bucks you off". Switching to a conventional spring-shock eliminates this.
Besides being the best made shocks they are also a great value, since they can be rebuilt in the event you ride far enough to wear them out, a significant savings over a new shock. Touratech-sponsored rider Helge Pederson

Your Ohlins shock (built in Sweden) will be specifically sprung and oil-damped for your motorcycle and its intended purpose, for your weight as described in your shock survey. Since riders are different weights, carry different loads and have different riding styles, we require information from you when you order regarding your weight and riding preferences to ensure that your suspension is not too firm or too soft but instead is just right for you and your bike.
The installation is "bolt-on", but the "built to spec" service is an essential component of a suspension upgrade, and should not be skipped for convenience. Build-time of your custom Ohlins shock is typically 10 business days.
