Clear on both sides. Clips to the crossbar with squeeze-buckles. If the map is folded properly, the buckles attachment allow it to flip over to continue your route.
Although I have a good Garmin GPS unit, I really found that having a hard copy map in easy view really helped me visually plan out where I wanted to go. When I set off on a ride I rarely have a plan, so having a map covering an area a couple of hundred miles across right in front of me gives me a good view of what's possible. I'm not a fan of constantly zooming in and out on my GPS, it's tough to keep a mental picture of everything, and it's a dangerous distraction. I usually photocopy smaller sections of my big map and store them in the main 'window'. When I'm getting prepared for a ride I just grab the section I need and put it in the window. Works great for me.
