Questions about this product?
A rallye-style alternative for the off-road R1200GS rider! This high one-piece seat offers considerably more freedom of movement and enables you to better shift the center of gravity when riding off-road. This seat is firmer than the stock seat and is appropriate for rallye raid type riding off-road. In addition, this sporty seat provides much better contact between the driver and the pillion passenger and makes riding even more fun.

The freedom of movement allows the driver to move rearward a little to change knee angle. This may not seem so important until you are on a long trip and getting tired of lifting your body upward onto the pillion seat for a few moments only to drop back down behind the windscreen. With the sport seat you can move rearward with less effort.

The 044-1040 seat is about 1.2 inches higher than the stock BMW seat (in its middle position) that comes with the R1200GS. A rider who is 6'2 with a 34" inseam reports that this seat is very comfortable to sit on, provides good leg bend to the foot pegs and allows both feet to be flat on the ground when stopped. For tall riders who want to minimize knee bend, consider using the 044-0570 adjustable footpegs that are wider and can be lowered to provide for an even more comfortable and stable ride.

A little bit of fiddling required to install the seat in my 2009 GSA, but once installed, a good fit. The bolt holding the tail of the seat to the center pin stands a bit tall with respect to the luggage rack, at least when installed on an '09. Quality and construction seem top notch. I'm 6'4" with a 34" inseam and can still flat-foot on level ground. The extra seat height is nice. I'm glad the gap between rider and pillion seats is gone. Also, the stock seat was canted a bit forward, the new sport seat seems fairly neutral--a big improvement. I was disappointed that the seat padding is not noticeably firmer than the squidgy stock seat, but it isn't any worse either. Still, I was hoping for a firmer seat and ride. After a 120 mile ride it seems worth keeping, but I'm not as thrilled as I had hoped to be.
