These fork springs by WIRTH of GERMANY are a little harder than the original springs and they are progressively wound. Which means they are supple at the top of the suspension travel, but become progressively stiffer as they compress, which is an ideal feature for a bike that is operated with one rider at times, and at other times, fully loaded. Reduces bottoming and increases control when riding off-road.
If your V-Strom has preload adjustments at the top of the front suspension, the proper progressive spring is 040-0492.
If you prefer a little more ground clearance, use the 2002 spring (040-0463) in your 2003+. It is 20mm longer thus will raise the front 20mm (3/4") higher than the 040-0492.
