Having an extra 12 volt plug that is right up front and easily accessible is a benefit, particularly when the 12-volt plug is wired directly to the battery as is the case with this unit. The 12-volt plug in this unit gets wired directly to the battery and thereby bypasses the CANbus system, which means that you can do things like hook up a portable air compressor to this plug without wondering what will happen to the CANbus, or have it shut off on you. I also use the extra outlet for my electric vest or to connect a USB charger for my iPhone, etc.
