The Aluminum rear frame of the G650X is not strong enough to support panniers. A strong replacement STEEL subframe is included in this kit to replace the Aluminum subframe. Please download and read the instructions - this installation is more difficult than a normal pannier frames installation. The pannier frames fit ONLY to the new steel subframe, they do not fit to the G650X original aluminum subframe.

I've now done several long rides with the steel subframe system installed. Installation is straight forward, the fit and finish are very good, and the instructions are put together great. Follow the directions and don't tighten it all down until you have all of the pieces loosely bolted together, or you will have issues during installation. It's great having the larger GS style top plate and the durability of the steel structure. You will not notice the weight difference of the steel frame.
