Garmins equipped with an upright antenna have one weak point: a crash or overhanging branches may damage the antenna's mechanical connection to the GPS. And possibly the internal circuitboard as well. Remote mounting the antenna to a safer location can solve this problem. The antenna is a little safer when not hard-mounted to the GPS. Two mounting hardware options are included. Photo link shows options for extra hardware included.
