We have installed a water-tight superseal connector about 18 inches from the GPS end. Thus the cable, which has an integral fuse in the positive conductor, can be connected directly to the battery and routed over the bike frame.
If you remove the handlebar mounting from the motorbike, the cable can remain attached to the GPS and is separated at the Superseal connector. The cable part connected to the battery remains on the motorbike.
